What We Say

What’s happening in the field

1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is DJ Milner, and I proudly serve as a Senior Project Engineer at TTS. With over 13 years of experience in Electrical and Controls, complemented by a brief stint of 3 years as a mechanic, my career has predominantly revolved around the upstream Oil and Gas industry. My journey has been marked by a commitment to excellence and a passion for innovation in engineering.

2. What are the three most important parts of your job?

The three pillars that define my role are Communication, Leadership, and Planning. Effective communication ensures seamless collaboration across teams, strong leadership drives project success, and meticulous planning lays the foundation for achieving our goals.

3. Can you tell us about a recent assignment you were on?

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to lead a transformative project involving a DLN (Dry Low Nox) Conversion on a General Electric Gas Turbine. We upgraded outdated GE Mark IV Turbine and Generator Control Panels with state-of-the-art TTS Control Panels on two GE Gas Turbines. Additionally, we modernized the plant control system with new TTS BOP controls. This project was a significant milestone for me, as it was my first time leading an initiative of this scale.

My responsibilities included:

  • Overseeing electrical and mechanical installation planning.
  • Managing material procurement.
  • Sourcing contractors.
  • Coordinating with on-site teams to ensure smooth execution

4. Is there anything particularly challenging you dealt with during the project?

One of the major challenges we faced was the equipment’s age. The original wiring insulation had deteriorated over time, leading to several issues that required careful attention and innovative solutions.

5. What was the most satisfying part of the project?

The most exhilarating moment of the project was undoubtedly when each gas turbine fired up for the first time. The sound and rumble of the turbines coming to life never fail to get my blood pumping and serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of our work. This modernization project allowed these “legacy” turbines to continue fulfilling a critical role in the electrical service area in which they are located for years to come.

6. What do you enjoy most about working at TTS?

I cherish two aspects of working at TTS the most: the travel opportunities and the exceptional leadership. Unlike the upstream oil and gas sector, where you’re often confined to less-than-ideal locations for extended periods, TTS offers the chance to explore diverse and exciting places. Moreover, the leadership at TTS is truly remarkable. Everyone is hands-on and dedicated to ensuring smooth operations, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment that is rare to find.
