What We Say

Behind the Scenes: Director of Midstream Operations

  1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I am Matt Shaw, Director of TTS Midstream Operations. Beginning with my naval career, I have worked with the installation and maintenance of electrical VFDs and PLC control-related components for about 24 years. In that time, I have been privileged enough to work in multiple industries, ranging from oil and gas (upstream, midstream), marine, dredging, construction, and manufacturing to power generation. This has given me a versatile experience base to pull from on a wide array of applications. Along with that, I have been challenged with working in multiple industries in multiple different countries, adding to the challenges of meeting international standards and requirements for different industries.

2. What does Director of Midstream Operations do at TTS?

On a day-to-day basis, I am called on to support a wide array of operational challenges. These are mainly centered around our Midstream Oil and Gas Operation but regularly cross over into our Power industry.

Our projects and products vary in size, scope, and location. So, at any given moment, we could be dispatching personnel to accommodate a scope change, finding quick delivery solutions to an unanticipated challenge, supporting our field personnel on location, or physically getting my hands dirty on the different projects to help fill a gap.

We have a very talented multidisciplinary staff that strives to exceed customers’ expectations. It is my role to make sure they have the tools they need to accomplish that. This could range from physical tools to engineering and technical support.

3. What are the 3 most important parts of your job?

  • Safety: Ensuring the safety of personnel across different industries and environments.
  • Quality of Work and Personnel: Matching the right people to each task while focusing on training and quality.
  • Communication and Customer Satisfaction: Overcoming challenges through clear communication and striving to exceed customer expectations by becoming their partner.

4. Is there anything particularly challenging you deal with in today’s business environment?

Balancing Time and Materials: Managing shifting timelines and materials in a dynamic environment, often requiring innovative solutions to meet project needs while maintaining realistic delivery expectations.

5. What do you enjoy most about your job?

The flexibility to tackle complex challenges and the satisfaction of completing projects while positively impacting each project’s outcomes.

6. What do you enjoy most about working at TTS?

The opportunity to work across diverse industries, collaborate with a talented team, and serve a broad customer base.
